Barton Smith : Reelizations One & Two (EM)

EM bring us this double CD reissue of two Barton Smith albums, recorded in the early to late seventies and originally released on Folkways in 1980 and 1982. All the pieces were composed for various dance groups (ballet, modern etc), and created using guitars, keyboards, self-made instruments, synthesizers, and tape manipulation. There’s an amazing array of styles here, ranging from from gentle acoustic bedroom folk guitar to percussion jams and synth and beatbox experiments.
