Lee Morgan : Cornbread (Blue Note)

Just the line-up on this 1965 session for Blue Note should have you licking your lips as Morgan is joined by Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Jackie McLean (alto sax), Herbie Hancock (piano), Larry Ridley (bass), and Billy Higgins (drums). Add to that the fact it was recorded around the same time as his soul-jazz classics “Sidewinder” and “Rumproller” and you should be positively salivating. The soloing is all obviously top notch and the set has real verve, with the title track leading the way.
